The best fashion advice is to pick what looks great on YOU. Don’t worry so much about fashion trends, let’s face it, no matter how trendy & stylish it looks on the hanger if it doesn’t fit you properly it’s just not going to look good.

It’s all in the sleeve! Long sleeves elongate the arms. Where as ¾ length sleeves will shorten the appearance of the arms. Short or cap sleeves are flattering and an especially good choice if you have bigger arms. Puffy sleeves and or sleeveless pieces will make your arms appear larger so they are more flattering on thin arms.

Lengths are super important too. If you have a long torso choosing shorter length tops and blouses will help balance your look. If your torso is short, longer lengths are better for you.

Solid or prints on top? A great rule to remember: Wear dark solid colors on the half of your body you want to hide. Wear bright colors or prints on the areas you want to bring attention to. Wearing a matching solid colored top and bottom will make you appear taller and slimmer.

To “tuck or un tuck”, that is the question. It is no longer considered frumpy or sloppy to wear shirts and blouses out. It is simply a matter of what looks the best on you, and of course the type of shirt/blouse you are wearing. You don’t want to leave something untucked that is meant to be tucked, or the opposite. The finish on the ends and the lengths will give you clues as what to do. This also coincides with making sure the un tucked shirt falls at the right length.

Consider the cut of a collar and how that will compliment the shape of your face. This is important to remember, you will be surprised at what a difference this simple rule can make. A turtle neck collar on someone with a short neck or a double chin will not be flattering. A V-neck or scoop neck will make the neck appear longer and be more appealing. A v-neck can be very flattering on a plus-size woman because it lengthens the neckline and draws the eye down. However, any neckline that shows overflowing cleavage is not flattering. A plus-size woman with an average bust can usually get away with slightly lower-cut tops than a woman who is very well endowed.

Most importantly, consider what bottoms you will pair your shirts and blouses with. Keep styles similar and make sure the fabrics compliment one another.
